The Buck Stopped There

I was disappointed to see the picture of a graduate toting what looked like a once-vibrant buck’s head and forelegs [Eliot Circular, September 2011]. аÄ×ÊÁÏies make a study of being inclusive where human beings are concerned, but nonhuman individuals remain conspicuously absent from the moral charts of most аÄ×ÊÁÏies. In this photo the buck is mocked even in death, revealing ignorance and indifference concerning other living beings. In some ways аÄ×ÊÁÏ is shamefully mainstream.
